Travelling by coach: Two Rivers Travel FAQs

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about our coach trips and Days Out from Reading. If you require any further information just email ask@woriverstravel.co.uk or call us on 0845 017 7801.

How safe is it to travel by coach?

Coaches are amongst the safest vehicles on our roads. Drivers have to pass a stringent driving test before being allowed to drive buses and coaches. Driving hours are controlled and recorded automatically so that the driver has to take a safety break, and can only drive and work for a fixed number of hours every day.

Are refreshments available on Two Rivers Travel coaches?

We offer a complimentary hot drink for all our Days Out customers.

How often will the coach stop for meal and toilet breaks?

It depends on the Day Out and length of each journey. We like to stop every two to three hours anyway, and don't forget we must comply with Drivers' Hours and Working Time Directive legislation with regard to stops. The driver will tell you if any stops are planned. If an unforeseen delay or incident makes a significant change to the journey, we may have to cancel a stop, or include an unplanned stop. We do our best to stick to schedules, but on the day the decision of the driver will be final.

How do you make sure we won't miss our coach home?

Your driver will tell you clearly when and where the pick-up point will be for each stage of the journey, so please listen carefully. If you are not sure, ask the driver and make sure you know where the pick-up will be.

Allow enough time to return to the pick-up point, and give yourself an extra 5-10 minutes in case you are delayed. There is an emergency contact phone number on your ticket if you think you may be delayed. Please give us as much notice as possible if you have to contact us.

In certain places, particularly London, we are only allowed to stop long enough to pick up passengers who are already waiting and must then move on. If you are not at the pick-up point at the specified time, we will have to leave without you and any further travel charges incurred will be your responsibility.

Is it easy to get in and out of your coaches?

We do not judge how easily accessible our coaches are as everyone is different. We do take care when choosing vehicles to ensure that they can lower the entrance steps, and have relatively wide and shallow steps with plenty of handrails. If you are unsure, please talk to us and we'll be glad to help. We find that, as many of our customers have restricted mobility, patience and the offer of assistance is often all that is needed.

What luggage can we take on a short break?

There are legal limits on the load that a coach may carry, so for each person we allow one average size suitcase / bag weighing no more than 20kgs and one piece of hand luggage to be taken inside.

Is there storage inside your coaches for coats and bags?

Yes, there are overhead lockers.

Can we eat and drink on Two Rivers Travel coaches?

Yes, but we do not allow hot / fast food or alcoholic drinks to be brought into the coach. Please take all your empty wrappers, bottles, cans, bags and rubbish with you. If we have to clean up afterwards, we may charge for the extra cleaning.

How fast can your coaches travel?

A speed limiting device has to be fitted as a legal requirement, so the maximum speed is 100kph (about 63 mph).

What do we do if we need to speak to the driver when moving?

It is an offence to speak to the driver when a coach is being driven, so please wait until the coach has stopped. However, you can speak to the driver to let him or her know of a hazard or safety-related incident on board the coach.

Can we walk about when the coach is moving?

It is an offence to stand up when a coach is moving. However, you can get up to go to and from the WC. Remember to put your seatbelt back on when you get back to your seat.

Do you have a tour guide giving a commentary on where we travel?

We operate guided tours for Good Connections Group Travel. See the Guided Day Trips page or call Good Connections on 01905 423075 for a brochure.

Do you offer assistance in getting on and off your coaches and with luggage?

Yes, we try to assist our customers wherever we can.

Can we reserve specific seats on Two Rivers Travel coach trips?

All seats are reserved at the time of booking, so let us know where you want to sit and we'll do our best to reserve your choice.

Do all seats on your coaches face the front?

Yes.

Do you have seatbelts on your coaches?

Yes and you are legally required to wear a seatbelt.

Can I play my personal stereo, MP3 or music on my phone, or games with sound on your coaches?

No, we believe they may intrude on other people's enjoyment of the journey.

Can I use my mobile phone on Two Rivers Travel coaches?

Using a mobile phone on a coach can be a nuisance to neighbouring passengers, and prevents tour guide commentary and safety announcements from being heard over the public address system. We ask you to turn off your phone so that it does not ring during the journey. If you have to contact someone, we prefer you to text them, or to speak quietly. If you are sitting near the driver, you may be told to move to a vacant seat away from the front of the coach, if one is available, or to end the call there and then.

Can I bring a walker / wheelchair / electric buggy or wheelchair with me?

We will be happy to take your walker /wheelchair /electric buggy or wheelchair but you MUST check first with us before booking. We may not have room or capacity for it, or the driver may be unable to lift it unaided.

There is a legal limit to the load a coach can carry and we would not want to refuse your walker / wheelchair / electric buggy or wheelchair on the day, so please contact us first to be sure that you can bring it.
